The Squirrels - The Not-So-Bright Side Of The Moon

PRESS RELEASE:
Long-time Seattle 'comedy music group' THE SQUIRRELS set to release Pink Floyd parody "The Not-So-Bright Side Of The Moon" in Jan. 2000!!!

ABOUT THE ALBUM:
In 1973, English progressive rock group Pink Floyd released what has turned out to be one of the all-time classic rock albums, "Dark Side Of The Moon". The album set a new standard for creativity & studio techniques, & eventually went on to spend a record 741 weeks on the Top 200 Albums chart, selling in excess of 25 million copies worldwide in the process.
A sort of "Holy Grail of trippiness", the album has since been dutifully snatched up & memorized by virtually every buzzed-out teenager to come down the pike since (& more than a few adults as well), becoming something of a 'right of passage'- to this day, one can hardly listen to FM radio for more than 20 minutes without hearing a cut from this LP.

As we enter the 21st century, Seattle Washington's own 'Musical Merry Pranksters' THE SQUIRRELS have decided to offer the music loving public another option. Realizing that for many people such massive exposure has caused the album to lose some of its original luster, The Squirrels have gleefully decided to give the old warhorse a new coat of paint. Far from a total parody, yet definitely not a straight "tribute album" either, "The Not-So-Bright Side Of The Moon" is a rollicking, brain-bending and often hilarious reworking of the ENTIRE Pink Floyd LP, clear down to the infamous sound effects, packaging, & mysterious background mumbling (provided largely in this case by Tortelvis & Ed Zeppelin of California-based crazies Dread Zeppelin, a band The Squirrels are often compared to). Yep, it's ALL THERE- only THIS time around, things are a bit, um, different.
We have 'test marketed' the CD on a number of individuals, and have happily found that people who know the original LP by heart (and there's a LOT of 'em) seem to absolutely LOVE this thing, and those who don't know Pink Floyd's music have found The Squirrels CD tremendously amusing as well. So far, EVERYONE who has heard it has seemingly enjoyed it, & many have commented that they believed it to be "the best album The Squirrels have ever made".

ABOUT THE BAND:
Founded in 1984 by ex-Pudz vocalist/Poplust Magazine publisher Rob "Capt." Morgan, this on-again off-again collection of musical misfits has been described "as a cross between Frank Zappa, The Tubes, and a High School Dance band from Hell". The Squirrels have played hundreds of shows throughout the Pacific Northwest, and over the years have included amongst their ranks members of The Young Fresh Fellows, The Posies, Prudence Dredge, Duffy Bishop & The Rhythm Dogs, Sister Psychic & a slew of other NW notables. The current line-up of long-time guitarists Jimmy "JT" Thomas and Joey Kline, bassist Kevin Crosby, drummer Hollis The Bug, and keyboard whiz Tom "New New Guy" Morrison are perhaps the best batch yet- the skill and expertise these players bring to the project is undeniable. Also joining the boys this time around are guitarist Kurt Bloch of The Fastbacks, pedal steel master Don Pawlak of The Souvenirs, sax maniac Skerik, NW producer/PopLlama honcho Conrad Uno, Squirrels' "mascot"/talking Cabbage Patch Doll Baby Cheevers, and the aforementioned cameos by Dread Zeppelin. Commisioned by Fan Mael Records in The Netherlands, the album was produced by Rob Morgan himself and is the band's sixth album, and the first to be released in Europe as well as the USA (the CD has been licensed for a US release by PopLlama Products, home of most of the bands previous works). With millions of Pink Floyd fans worldwide, the potential for this thing is FRIGHTENING!!!
